Benefits of a Monthly Facial Program

January 12, 2012 by

What are the benefits of a monthly professional facial?

A monthly facial will give you an opportunity to work with a skin care specialist regularly. Your skin will be analyzed monthly by a licensed Aesthetician. Your skin needs may change rapidly and with regular facials and your concerns will be addressed immediately.

Some of the factors that can change your skin are: stress level, diet, lifestyle, seasonal changes in the weather and hormonal changes like menopause.

Therefore, a regular professional facial with appropriate home skin care will help to keep your skin looking healthy, clear and fresh regardless of age.  More benefits of a monthly facial include: exfoliation and better absorption of skin care products, improved texture and complexion. Increased circulation and stimulation to the skin will help with collagen production and help with premature aging.  Preventive acne treatments will help with breakouts and blemishes. Healthy and radiant skin will boost your confidence and taking an hour a month will give you the time to unwind and relax.

Regular facials are made affordable with our monthly program. They are an excellent tool in preventive skin care with great dividends in years to come. You can compare the benefits of regular skin care to the of regular exercise, healthy lifestyle and diet.

Winter Skin Care Tips – Eyes

January 6, 2012 by

Our eyes are one the most sensitive areas on our bodies. Protecting your eye area is a very important part of your daily skin care routine.

Winter Skin Care Tips – Eyes

Facelogic Skin Care Spa Eye TreatmentDuring the winter, when the days are shorter we spend more time inside, often under florescent lighting. The cold air has low humidity and the heating systems in our homes dry out our eyes.  All these factors contribute to our eyes tending to look tired, red and puffy.

We recommend doing an eye mask with green tea or cucumber. A collagen eye mask will not only sooth your eyes but will also help with preventing signs of premature aging. Use an eye cream daily and treat your eyes with care.

Winter Skin Care Tips for Face

December 15, 2011 by

The winter season with its first snowfall has its beauty. However icy temperatures, low air humidity and indoor heat simply pull out moisture from the skin. Add to the environmental factors hot showers and harsh soaps and what you are left with is dry, itchy and flaky skin. The dehydration process also disrupts cell turnover, leading to an avalanche of dead cells and a lifeless, dull skin. Winter Skin Care Tips from Facelogic Skin Care Spa

The solution is to understand that your skin has different needs during the changing seasons and increase your layers of support with proper skin care.

1. Talk with a professional who can analyze your skin type and condition to recommend appropriate care products for your skin.

2. Use a gentle foaming cleanser or cleansing milk. Add a hydrating mask. Avoid alcohol based toners.

3. Say goodbye to your water-based summer moisturizer and use one with emollients such as natural oils, like jojoba, almond or olive. A good winter moisturizer should have humectants such as hyaluronic, lactic and glycolic acids as it will attract water from the dermis into the epidermis.

4. Layer a hydrator under your moisturizer, a serum or hydrating booster to increase your level of protection against the environmental factors. If you are concerned with pre-mature aging make sure you use a product with retinol, it will help with cell turnover.

5. Sunscreen isn’t just for the summertime. Winter sun combined with snow glare can still damage your skin. Defend against ultraviolet rays with moisturizing sunscreen and antioxidants-especially if you engage in winter sports.

6. Drink plenty of water or Green Tea with honey and lemon to boost Vitamin C and antioxidants intake. Consider investing in a humidifier.

Fall is for fantastic skin!

As you pack away your summer dresses and take out your sweaters think about your skin care in the same way.  It needs different care in the fall and winter than in the summer months. For example: we recommend replacing fruity cleansing gels with more creamy and protective cleansers (depending on your skin type).

Falling leaves, cooler weather…. it’s a perfect time for a peel or microdermabrasion treatment to help with visible signs of summer skin damage like sun spots, skin discoloration, premature aging, wrinkles and dryness. These treatments will help remove the dead and damaged skin cells and increase the cell turnover while increasing the natural production of collagen. Your skin will feel alive again!

A professional peel or microdermabrasion/peel combo is a great option to jump start your skin care into the fall and winter season. Peels appropriate to your skin type will help your skin to look healthy, fresh, supple and will help to diminish signs of premature aging and repair the skin damage from summer.

You can prolong the results of a professional treatment by continuing regular skin care at home as well as using products that are appropriate to your skin type and time of the year.

Book an appointment today at C.Joy Salon, 425.577.6232 for your skincare consultation and fall skin care treatment and we will get you started on the path to gorgeous, healthy, age defying skin.

Summer Living – Skincare, Foods, Hydration and more…

June 22, 2011 by

Summer living and the time is right. Whether enjoying some sun on the beach, in the garden or up in the mountains, it’s essential to protect our skin, hair and body. Here are a few things to consider this summer when you head out the door into the glorious sun, Enjoy!

Sunscreen:

It’s essential to protect our skin from the sun, both before and after exposure: If you choose to spend a lot of time in the sun, you should have a sunscreen that is safe and effective. Keep in mind that there is no such thing as a “sun block” that will protect you against 100% of the UV rays. Your best protection from the sun is to moderate your sun exposure and to wear protective clothing. If you do need a sunscreen, you should look for a mineral zinc oxide sunscreen that has a base of natural and organic ingredients such as shea butter or jojoba oil. After sun exposure, a good aloe vera gel or a soothing shea butter based balm will do wonders for sun-parched skin.

Summer Haircare:

Summer may bring glorious visions of natural highlights and long windblown hair.  The reality?  Summer sun, spiraling hot temperatures and related humidity may damage your hair’s cuticle resulting in dry, drab, split, brittle or frizzy hair and ragged ends.  Sun exposure can be just as damaging to unprotected tresses as a super hot blow dryer.

  • Shampoo less often to allow tresses to absorb natural oils.
  • During summer months when hair tends to be moisture deprived, go longer in between color traetments
  • If you normally use hot styling tools (blow dryers, flattening iron), give your hair a rest during summer months. Air dry whenever possible or opt for easy chic styles.
  • When you cleanse be sure to apply a rinse-out conditioner appropriate for your hair, and then after towel blotting tresses apply a drop or two of a great leave-in conditioner. Also add a deep conditioning treatment once a month.
  • Consider wearing a super cute large sun hat, covers hair and your face.

Foods for healthy summer living:
A healthy summer diet should include green leafy veggies and fruits with high water content.  Avoid eating out as much and opt for home made fresh food. Instead of frying and cooking vegetables, it is better to eat steamed vegetables, and include seasonal fruits and vegetables in your diet. As they contain the required elements to fight with excessive heat.  Reduce the intake of excessive salt in your food.  Avoid adding extra salt to your food, it disturbs the functioning of glands that produces sweat. Improper functioning of sweat glands can increase the chance of heat stroke.

Water, water, water:
Drink plenty of water. Water is the most essential element of the body. 70% of our body is made up of water, thus it is necessary to provide our body with required amount of water. During summer, our body looses excessive amount of water which leads to dehydration. Dehydration is the worst condition, where body suffers from numerous problems. Drink an ample amount of water before leaving the house and carry water with you if you are planning to be out in the sun.

The Royal Wedding Approaches – A Glimpse Into Kate Middleton’s Beauty Routine

April 28, 2011 by

With the royal wedding  just days away, we wonder about Kate’s preparation for her big day!  A possible queen in the making, we are sure Kate has only the best style and beauty service providers at the very tips of her perfectly manicured fingers to help her look her absolute best.  Let’s run through the scenario;

HIRE A MAKEUP ARTIST: Although rumor has it that Kate did her own makeup for her engagement photos, we highly doubt she will do it on her wedding day.  She’ll be nervous enough to get dressed, let alone put on the face that will be seen by millions…in HD.

PUT YOUR BEST FACE FORWARD: We have no doubt that Kate will keep it soft and simple; a classic wedding look (and in our opinion the ONLY way to go, on your big day).  Your husband (royal or not) is marrying YOU, and unless you rise and fall with bright blue eye shadow, skip it on wedding day.  While you may not have the throngs of photographers that Kate will certainly have, you will be photographed on your wedding day.  So our advice to all brides, airbrush your foundation.  This will ensure a streak and blemish free face without looking too heavy.  You’ll also want to make sure you use a primer before, and then finish with a dusting of loose powder. Doing so will ensure your foundation stays put.  While you might have the luxury of going to the loo for touch-ups, Kate’s face has to stay put for over four hours during the procession and ceremony.

Our royal referral: C.Joy Salon recommends scheduling our Dermalogica facial once a month starting 3-6 months prior to the big day.

EYE DO’s: Word on the street is that the lights in The Abbey are very bright and high overhead which can cast shadows under the eyes.  An easy fix is to use a brightening under eye concealer.  Another thing to consider is fake lashes…they look great in pictures but if you’re a crier, I’d advise against it.  Nothing is weirder than a rogue lash stuck to your cheek – or even worse, your grooms.  Waterproof mascara is a must…because your vows SHOULD make you emotional.

NAIL IT THE DAY BEFORE: No matter how much planning you (or your royal wedding planners) put into the big day, you’re going to have a lot on your plate the morning of.  When the bouquets get mixed up, or the seating charts get lost, the LAST thing you’re going to want to deal with is wet nails.  DO IT THE NIGHT BEFORE.  Period.  And splurge on the bottle of polish that you can use,  just in case.

AVOID A HAIR-Y SITUATION: According to some British tabloids, Kate is going to have six hair stylists on hand.  I can’t even image how they’ll all fit around her head.  Lucky for her, she has amazing locks and we hope she lets them flow freely. But a lot of what decides the haircomes from the accessories you plan on wearing.  For Kate, it’s been said that she’s trading a tiara for flowers (SERIOSULY KATE?!?!), Whatever the accouterment, you MUST try your style ahead of time.  You want to feel confident about your hair, not concerned.  So be sure to book a trial consultation and style it exactly how you plan on doing it for the wedding.  THEN…dance around the salon/down the street/ in your house (we’re not kidding) to make sure it won’t go anywhere when you decide to show off those killer moves on the dance floor.

Most importantly, have fun! There’s nothing more beautiful, happy, glowing bride – royal or not!
