Winter Skin Care Tips – Eyes

Our eyes are one the most sensitive areas on our bodies. Protecting your eye area is a very important part of your daily skin care routine.

Winter Skin Care Tips – Eyes

Facelogic Skin Care Spa Eye TreatmentDuring the winter, when the days are shorter we spend more time inside, often under florescent lighting. The cold air has low humidity and the heating systems in our homes dry out our eyes.  All these factors contribute to our eyes tending to look tired, red and puffy.

We recommend doing an eye mask with green tea or cucumber. A collagen eye mask will not only sooth your eyes but will also help with preventing signs of premature aging. Use an eye cream daily and treat your eyes with care.

Winter Skin Care Tips – Hands

Keeping your busy hands moisturized during the winter months is imperative. Here are some tips to keep hands soft, supple and visibly young looking.

Use an emollient cream as it will draw moisture from the air and put moisture molecules back into your skin. As a result your skin will stay hydrated and all of the dead cells that cause dry and flaky skin will loosen up. Next, use a cleanser to remove the loose skin cells to give your skin a clean, fresh and smooth texture. After cleansing, use a moisturizer to seal in that newly polished skin.

An overnight hand treatment may be recommended if your skin requires more advanced care. Protect your hands with gloves.

We often tend to neglect our lips until they are dry, chapped and sore. Winter’s dry air is hard on them. One of the best things you can do for your lips in the winter is use a lip treatment regularly. First, you gently exfoliate the lips to remove the dead cells, after, apply a mask for about 3 minutes, letting it sink into the skin and then wipe it off. Last, apply a lip balm with Vitamin E and Vitamin C, it penetrates at the cellular level, replenishing, repairing and hydrating molecules, giving you soft, supple lips. My absolute favorite lip treatment is the Eminence Organics Lip Trio.

Winter Skin Care Tips for Face

December 15, 2011 by

The winter season with its first snowfall has its beauty. However icy temperatures, low air humidity and indoor heat simply pull out moisture from the skin. Add to the environmental factors hot showers and harsh soaps and what you are left with is dry, itchy and flaky skin. The dehydration process also disrupts cell turnover, leading to an avalanche of dead cells and a lifeless, dull skin. Winter Skin Care Tips from Facelogic Skin Care Spa

The solution is to understand that your skin has different needs during the changing seasons and increase your layers of support with proper skin care.

1. Talk with a professional who can analyze your skin type and condition to recommend appropriate care products for your skin.

2. Use a gentle foaming cleanser or cleansing milk. Add a hydrating mask. Avoid alcohol based toners.

3. Say goodbye to your water-based summer moisturizer and use one with emollients such as natural oils, like jojoba, almond or olive. A good winter moisturizer should have humectants such as hyaluronic, lactic and glycolic acids as it will attract water from the dermis into the epidermis.

4. Layer a hydrator under your moisturizer, a serum or hydrating booster to increase your level of protection against the environmental factors. If you are concerned with pre-mature aging make sure you use a product with retinol, it will help with cell turnover.

5. Sunscreen isn’t just for the summertime. Winter sun combined with snow glare can still damage your skin. Defend against ultraviolet rays with moisturizing sunscreen and antioxidants-especially if you engage in winter sports.

6. Drink plenty of water or Green Tea with honey and lemon to boost Vitamin C and antioxidants intake. Consider investing in a humidifier.

Healthy eating habits are extremely important but what does this really mean? We think it’s a lifestyle where you make a time-tested commitment to balance, variety and moderation.

Simply said: it is an everyday commitment to eating a variety of foods from different food groups without getting too many calories or too much of one nutrient.

So, where do you start?
We all know that old habits are hard to break, so start slow. Be realistic with your expectations and make one change a week, rather than trying to change everything at once. Try adopting one nutrition tip a week and incorporate it into your busy lifestyle. Within 2-3 months you will develop healthy eating habits that will last a lifetime…..more energy, better health and beautiful skin are just some of the benefits.

Dine Out Less

Huge portions high in fat and calories makes it hard to eat well when dining out. When you do eat out, avoid fried foods, heavy sauces and dressings, and skip fillers like bread baskets. Most restaurants have now a “healthy choice” on the menu. Ordering a mini portion or sharing your plate is also a good option. Facelogic skin care spa healthy habits tips series dine out less

Supply it with the right nutrients throughout the day. Glucose, iron, B, C and E vitamins have all been shown to affect our memory, attentiveness, ability to react and respond. The brain needs a continuous supply of glucose to fuel it. Eat foods high in omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon, flaxseed oil, and omega-3 eggs.

Healthy Habits Tip Series – Week 6 Don’t Skip Meals

Try adopting one nutrition tip a week and incorporate it into your busy lifestyle. Within 2-3 months you will develop healthy eating habits that will last a lifetime…..more energy, better health and beautiful skin are just some of the benefits.

Don’t Skip Meals

Waiting more than four or five hours between meals causes your blood sugar to bottom out, leaving you weak, irritable and tired. Try to eat three balanced meals and two snacks per day. Include a protein source in every meal and snack.

Avoid reaching for refined sugars when you starving, so no candy bars. Sorry. What you do is telling your body to create a burst of insulin to metabolize the sugar. Unstable and high insulin levels can cause problems like diabetes type 2. By cutting refined sugar you in your diet your body slows the production of insulin to healthier levels. Try a baked apple instead.

Good snack idea: a handful or blueberries mixed with almonds or walnuts. This is a great source of antioxidants, fiber, omega-3 and protein with low sugar content.
